Walking along Worth Avenue, we are entertained by the continuous line of shop fronts. In the distance, we see something exotic. Two asymmetric towers call attention to arcades built over the sidewalk. As we approach, the arcades draw us into a sequence of shady courtyards, intimate pedestrian lanes and miniature plazas. Known as "vias" these spaces seem to have built over a long period of time by many different builders. And yet, they were built in a few short years in the 1920's by one architect, Addison Mizner.
